The Golf Club Argentino’s history goes back to the origins of golf in our country. It was founded in 1905, with its course initially in Palermo – where today we find the Lagos de Palermo Golf Club, also known as Campo Municipal de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
At that time, on the 1900’s, English and Scottish railway engineers and workers, who were commissioned to build Argentina’s railway system, were building golf clubs in each train station – therefore introducing the sport to our country. The Golf Club Argentino was the first founded entirely by argentine golfers and located just 3 miles from Downtown.
In the late 1940’s, General Peron expropriated the course from the Club, forcing members to move to its current location – the town of Del Viso. The Levy family donated the piece of land in which the New Course was built.
For almost 3 years, the club’s members had no course where to play, so many courses allowed the GCA members to play in their venues. During those years, the Club Championship was held in Lomas Athletic Club, the oldest golf course in the Country.
After a while it became a country club and consequently the use of its course became exclusive for members. Today, members and guests can enjoy this fantastic venue, a true test of golf for the highest skilled amateurs.
